“Flat Out, Wobbly or Just in Pain? Why Your Child’s Feet Might Be Trying to Tell You Something!”

When your child starts limping after football, walking on their toes, or complaining about sore knees — it’s easy to brush it off as “just growing pains.” But what if it’s something more?

At The Foot Room, we see children every week who are quietly struggling with foot, leg, or movement issues — many of them active, sporty, and full of potential, but held back by pain they don’t quite know how to explain.

And here’s the thing: kids aren’t just little adults. Their feet, bones, joints, and muscles are constantly growing, shifting, and adapting — which means they need specialist care designed just for them.

What’s a Children’s Biomechanical Assessment?

It’s a fancy way of saying we look at how your child moves, how their feet and legs function, and why pain or problems might be happening.

We check things like:

Foot posture and arch development, knee alignment, hip and lower limb control, gait (how they walk and run), balance and flexibility, and yes — we chat about their footwear too.

All in a calm, child-friendly space, led by experienced podiatrists who understand that sometimes you have to work with a child’s personality to get the best results.

What Conditions Do We Commonly See?

Here are just a few of the most frequent foot and leg issues we help with:

  • Sever’s Disease – heel pain in growing kids (especially sporty ones)
  • Osgood-Schlatter’s – knee pain linked to growth spurts and activity
  • Flat feet – when arches don’t develop as expected
  • Toe-walking – sometimes habitual, sometimes neurological, always worth checking
  • Foot or ankle pain during/after sport
  • Poor balance or clumsiness
  • Recurring injuries that just won’t settle

But My Child’s Active — Doesn’t That Mean They’re Fine?

Not always. In fact, the more active your child is, the more likely they are to overload certain structures, compensate with poor mechanics, or suffer from growth-related conditions that impact performance and long-term development.

That’s where we come in.

What Happens After the Assessment?

Depending on what we find, we might:

  • Create a personalised treatment plan
  • Recommend stretching and strengthening exercises
  • Suggest custom orthotics to improve alignment
  • Offer footwear guidance (that your child will actually wear!)
  • Work alongside coaches or schools to support them in sport
  • Just give you peace of mind that everything’s on track

And the best bit? Kids usually love coming to see us. We keep it relaxed, friendly, and absolutely not scary — in fact, we’ve had more than one child skip into the clinic for their follow-up.

Real Talk from Parents

We’ve had so many parents say the same thing:

“I wish I’d called sooner — I didn’t realise podiatrists helped with that!”

Well… now you do!

Let’s Catch Issues Early, So They Don’t Become Lifelong Problems

Pain and discomfort aren’t just inconvenient — they can affect confidence, performance, and even long-term development. If your child is struggling, complaining of pain, or walking in a way that just doesn’t seem right — we’re here to help.

Let us be part of your child’s journey to pain-free movement, stronger performance, and happier feet.
